UNICEF in the State of Palestine (SoP) operates in a complex humanitarian context, supporting children and families in Gaza. The Security Officer plays a key role in enabling programme delivery by providing security risk management support, operational assistance, and advice to help ensure the safety and security of personnel, assets, and operations.

How can you make a difference?

You report to the Security Specialist or Chief of Operations/Operations Manager for supervision. You provide professional technical, operational, and administrative support to your supervisor in managing a range of activities related to security planning, management, and risk assessments. Your role is to help ensure the safety and security of personnel and their eligible family members, as well as safeguard UNICEF premises, assets, and resources at the duty station.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Minimum requirements:

• Education: Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in Security Risk Management, International Relations, Operations, Conflict Analysis, Intelligence Analysis, Diplomatic Studies, Conflict and Security, Counter Terrorism and any other related fields.
• Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in security, security risk management, security operations, emergency management, crisis management, threat assessment, contingency planning, safety management, security training, stakeholder liaison, emergency communications is required.
• Demonstrated skills in risk management, security analysis, security documentation, security training, conflict analysis, and intelligence analysis are required.
• Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Desirables:

• Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
• Demonstrated experience in international security management, security management systems, host government liaison, and security risk management, with an understanding of the United Nations Security Management System is highly desirable.
• Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
