About the role

Position Overview:


Responsible for providing feedback on daily registration processes and staffing issues to the Patient Access Manager. Provides assistance to staff level employees as necessary to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures. Assists the Manager and Director with staffing, report reconciliation and QA process. Provides management back up when Manager is not available. The Registrar Lead will manage workload and perform in a service excellence manner to best represent the facility and department. This position also performs other duties as assigned and as deemed necessary by the Patient Access Manager or Director in order to achieve success of the department and facility.


Essential Functions:


Promotes the philosophy and mission of Montrose Regional Health.


Meets all active working position requirements in regards to accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of work performed, oversees patient flow, and responds to requests from other departments that directly affect patient care in an accurate and timely manner.

Oversees daily activities in main admissions, pre-cert, pre-auth, and pre-regs to ensure standards are being met. Maintain QA statistics in Relay Health and publicizing weekly report cards. Promotes service excellence in all responsibilities and encourages staff compliance in department driven service excellence and process improvement initiatives.

Serves as a resource for all staff in regards to policy and procedures. Encourages staff compliance in regards to upfront collections and registration accuracy. Assists department management in educating registration staff of any changes pertinent to their roles and responsibilities. Works closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments in an effort to maintain a teamwork environment.


Has a strong working knowledge of all major processes within Patient Access and how they interface with other departments. Able to perform all job related tasks and functions with a high level of skill and understanding which include: registration, insurance eligibility, medical necessity and up-front collections.


Knowledgeable of patient rights and position specific advance directives. Considers patients/families language, cultural, and religious beliefs when providing service. Performs well in stress and emergency situations.


Assumes on call responsibilities to ensure adequate staffing and problem solving as assigned. Acts in capacity of department management in their absence, informing the Patient Access Manager of any issues upon their return.

Assists with employee 90 day and annual evaluations. Member of peer-interview team and make recommendations for hiring. Assist in training new employees as requested.

Consults manager for additional assignments or independently assumes responsibility for unassigned tasks when needed. Accepts and acts upon constructive criticism.


Able to function in multiple roles by lending assistance to peers in all areas of Patient Access. This is inclusive of being a working team lead registering patients as needed. Super-user with Meditech and Relay Health and available to lend educational and mentoring support.


Huddles with the team on a regular basis and updates staff on department meetings if they were unable to attend.


Consistently rounds with teams on a daily basis.


When appropriate, relieve staff members during employee sick/vacation time


Assists in resolving patient concerns


Demonstrates knowledge of occurrence reporting system, Midas and utilizes system to report potential patient safety issues.


Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.


Education and Work Experience


High School diploma or GED.


Ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and non-verbally, in a clear, concise manner.


Administrative and philosophical compatibility with Montrose Regional Health.


Interpersonal skills and sound judgment necessary to communicate with a wide variety of persons including patients.


The ability to make appropriate decisions based on fact and knowledge is required. The ability to perform detailed work required. The ability to work harmoniously with employees required. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and show good judgment. The ability to make decisions under pressure and deadlines required.
