University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site in Fort Myer, VA for the Biology program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course(s):
BIOL 101 - Concepts of Biology:
An introduction to the structure and function of living organisms. The objective is to use knowledge about biological principles and scientific reasoning to make informed decisions about the natural world. Topics include the chemical foundations of life, cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecosystems, and the interdependence of living organisms. Discussion also covers the importance of the scientific method to biological inquiry and the impact of biological knowledge and technology on human societies.
BIOL 102 - Laboratory in Biology:
A hands-on study of the structure and function of living organisms. The goal is to apply the scientific method and to use scientific and quantitative reasoning to make informed decisions about experimental results in the biological sciences. Laboratory exercises emphasize the scientific method and explore topics such as the chemical foundations of living organisms, cell structure and function, and the classification of organisms
BIOL 103 - Introduction to Biology:
An introduction to the structure and function of living organisms. The aim is to apply the scientific method and use scientific and quantitative reasoning to make informed decisions about experimental results in the biological sciences. Topics include the chemical foundations of life, cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecosystems, and interdependence of living organisms. Discussion also covers the importance of the scientific method to biological inquiry and the impact of biological knowledge and technology on human societies. Laboratory activities emphasize the scientific method.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Masters degree in Biology or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Professional experience in Biology, Natural Science or related field.
Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
This position is specifically to teach on-site in Fort Myer, VA
