What You'll Do

Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. is a world leader in Memory, System LSI and LCD technologies. As a member of Samsung’s Memory Solutions Lab (MSL), you will be part of an Advanced Research and Development team developing the next generation of enterprise memory and storage technologies. The team innovates, solves key technical problems in areas and products related to Samsung’s HBM, DRAM and NAND flash memory technologies, and tackles a variety of challenging issues in data center, server, and AI software infrastructure.

The ideal candidate for this role would share our passion for creating and innovating new technologies, and thrive in a highly dynamic, fast-paced, results-driven environment. We are looking for someone to manage, guide and lead a group of highly talented, passionate, and versatile engineers who share our vision and contribute to the creation of next generation memory solutions. He/She will join a team of experts in researching and developing innovative solutions that utilize existing and emerging technologies to add substantial value to Samsung. The team covers a broad spectrum of topics and is building an ecosystem surrounding efficient utilization of next-generation AI hardware. Your team will be working with the-state-of-art technologies in the context of vertical integration and optimization across H/W and S/W.

Location: Hybrid with at least 3 days in office in San Jose, CA office location remainder of time to work remotely.

  • Manage and guide a team of 5-7 research engineers developing efficient AI software systems and solutions.
  • Lead key research and development activities to design, develop and evaluate software for accelerators such as GPUs and memory solutions meeting their needs.
  • Work with other hardware/software architects to invent new and refine existing solutions for future products, and contribute to feasibility studies.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to meet organizational goals. Collaborate with universities and international teams.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture, helping engineers to be motivated, engaged and accountable.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 8+ year or PhD in Electrical, Computer Science or related Science with 5+ years of Industry Experience Preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3+ year of experience in a technical leadership role with 2+ years of experience in people management/team leadership role.
  • 3+ years of experience and in-depth expertise in ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc., and related ecosystem software stack development.
  • Proven track record of leading the delivery of production-ready software.
  • Must be highly motivated with excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, listening and presentation skills.
  • Prior experience developing/leading compiler-accelerated distributed performance improvement solutions in AI/ML frameworks and related ecosystem stack.
  • Expertise in end-to-end performance analysis and improvement of acceleration kernels.
  • Good understanding of accelerator architecture and micro-architecture fundamentals.
  • Prior hardware/software co-design experience and ability to collaborate with both the hardware and the software teams effectively.
  • Proven leadership, emotional intelligence and soft skills such as self-awareness, empathy, adaptability, conflict resolution and influencing skills.
