Description
The Stony Brook Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine along with the Stony Brook Cancer Center is looking for a Nutritional Epidemiologist, with expertise in cancer and other chronic diseases, as well as experience in the role of nutrition as determinant of risk and outcome. The successful candidate will develop and establish multi-disciplinary research programs in collaboration with nutritionists, epidemiologists and basic cancer researchers with the Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine, the Cancer Center, and others across Stony Brook University. Candidates with the ability to form collaborative engagements with investigators in established Cancer Center Research Programs with strengths in metabolomics, lipids, and other nutritional and environmental factors driving carcinogenesis are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment under new cancer center and university leadership, will be provided generous support and will join unique Research Programs. They will be expected to acquire and lead NIH level supported research programs, to be or to become recognized leaders in the field, and to engage in research activities that strive to reduce the burden of cancer.
Applicants must themselves be accomplished, with a record of successful mentorship and teaching, all commensurate with rank. The successful candidate should hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD or equivalent.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
MD or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in nutrition, public health, epidemiology or related disciplines. Research experience in cancer epidemiology or nutritional epidemiology. Mentorship and teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a PI in federal grants in cancer epidemiology or nutritional epidemiology.

To qualify for tenure and/or a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
