The Corporate Engineering Services Department executes large capital investment projects throughout North America. The Project Director is the focal point of responsibility, authority, and accountability of these capital investments.

 

The Project Director will be located in Houston and is required to move for the construction phase, most likely to Freeport or Geismar.
 

As a Project Director, You Create Chemistry By...

 

• Being accountable for projects >$200M, setting direction of project to achieve cost, schedule, and functionality targets.
• Planning and managing process and budget.
• Mentoring and coaching of project team to help them perform to achieve project targets.
• Developing and implementing plan for continuous improvement of project execution.
• Directly motivating the people that indirectly report to this position, and negotiating terms and conditions of the project regarding the overall engineering activities.
• Interacting with a heterogeneous group consisting of regional multidisciplinary team members.
• Maintaining focus on safety in the development of project concept and during execution and ensuring compliance with all BASF policies, procedures and technical standards.
• Providing leadership to the project team which includes engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and turnover management.
• Developing execution and contracting strategies to effectively meet project objectives.
• Overseeing Change Management process and providing cost and schedule control.
• Championing the scope development process to ensure completeness of the basic engineering and looks for opportunities for added value through application of Value Improving Practices.
• Communicating to executives of project status, project risks, and coordinating decisions on countermeasures to mitigate risks or capitalize on opportunities.
• Conducting global, regional and cross-organizational coordination in a complex structure of teams and tasks.

The Formula for Success

 

• Proven strong abilities in leadership, engineering, purchasing, accounting and large capital project management practices
• Strong leadership skills to manage and develop diverse and global teams, in compliance with company values and culture
• Demonstrated strong influencing and impact skills, and ability to influence project Senior Executive stakeholders
• Strong negotiation, contract Management skills and analytical skills
• Experience in implementing of execution and collaboration tools & technologies globally for internal and external parties, and to ensure proper knowledge management
• BS Engineering (Chemical/ Mechanical)
• PMP Certification desired
• 15+ years Engineering experience 
• At least 12 years of experience in Project Management
