Boiler System Owner – Maintenance Specialist, Sr.
Location: Plant Bowen, Georgia Power Company
Job Description: This position is based at Georgia Power Company’s Plant Bowen and involves supporting the maintenance and operation of supercritical steam generators and their auxiliaries. The Boiler System Owner is responsible for all maintenance and support activities related to the boiler and process steam systems. Reporting to the Planning Team Leader, this role is crucial for strategic maintenance planning, major project execution, and providing system subject matter expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise on system equipment and processes, including boiler tubing, boiler operation, welding, combustion performance, high energy piping, sootblowing, system valves, and system pumps.
- Project and monitor system O&M and capital budgets.
- Contribute to budget development to address system requirements.
- Prioritize, monitor, and review all routine work on the boiler and process steam systems.
- Develop the plant boiler maintenance strategy and outage project schedule.
- Prepare specifications for component replacements.
- Manage projects related to boiler and process steam activities.
- Lead boiler inspections.
- Coordinate offsite manufacturing and shop repair surveillance.
- Maintain strong working relationships with boiler vendors and technical support personnel.
- Initiate, investigate, and implement corrective action reports for boiler and process steam events.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of recent experience in utility-scale boiler maintenance or operations.
- Fundamental knowledge of materials used in boilers.
- Experience/certification in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW welding processes.
- Ability to critically analyze equipment and process issues and determine appropriate actions.
- Proven risk assessment and decision-making skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of plant safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Preferred: Demonstrated project management experience.
- Preferred: Working knowledge of applicable codes/standards (ASME B&PV, NBIC, NFPA).
- Preferred: Familiarity with Maximo and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Preferred: Previous experience in system ownership, project planning, and resource coordination.
Additional Requirements:
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Willingness to work in harsh environments.
