About the role

FutureLearn is significantly growing our international business as one of the company’s strategic pillars. We are looking for experienced International Development Managers/Associate Directors to identify, develop and manage international business opportunities to serve global companies, higher education institutions, governments and nonprofits, who seek to empower, up skill or re-train their workforce and students with FutureLearn’s inspiring and engaging courses and platform.

Reporting to the VP of International Development, you will play a significant role in contributing to international strategy and go-to-market execution for designated international markets. The post holder will develop new international business leads, handle commercial negotiations, close deals, maintain and manage the relationship with international business clients and continue to develop further education and business opportunities with them.

You will be target-driven, self-motivated, and highly committed to developing international business opportunities. You will be a critical member of the team, with working knowledge of digital trends and developments in the Learning and development sector. You will have an in-depth knowledge of and experience with the business development and sales process, excelling at lead generation, relationship building, business negotiations, and closing deals. You will require collaboration and coordination across Marketing, Product, Support, Partnerships, Finance and Legal.

The International Development Manager/Associate Director will be joining a dynamic, passionate and success-driven team and will be key to FutureLearn achieving its education and business objectives.


What does success look like?

  • Achieve the company and department’s business objectives, meeting and
  • exceeding quarterly and annual revenue targets;
  • Develop and implement a business development plan for designated international markets and regions;
  • Identify, develop, manage and maintain a network of companies, universities, colleges, governments and nonprofits to establish a resourceful and effective pipeline;
  • Actively convert prospective international business leads/enquiries and close deals;
  • Lead discussions and negotiations on collaborative models and financial arrangements with new partners;
  • Work with the Marketing team, to ensure relevant publicity and promotional material about international development is updated and available to existing and prospective partners.
  • Plan, manage and attend marketing and networking activities to promote our solution and course provision;
  • Produce statistical reports, updates, and forecasts;
  • Conduct partnership reviews to identify return on investment, areas for improvement and new opportunities;
  • Undertake market research and analysis to make recommendations on the international business plan, processes, and product development to continuously improve our international services and solutions.


What you bring to the table:

  • Education to degree level or equivalent
  • Professional qualification in marketing is desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience and track record of success in developing/nurturing new business/sales opportunities to generate revenues (desirables in higher education and corporate training sector)
  • Substantial experience in selling services and solutions to large and complex organisations
  • Experience in having business negotiations and closing contractual deals.
  • Experience in developing and delivering business plans.
