Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services. DBHDS is committed to a life of possibilities for all Virginians. This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health Facility, located in Danville, VA.

SVMHI is seeking a dedicated, experienced Registered Nurse Professional to work as a day shift Admissions Coordinator/House Supervisor. Duties include coordinating with necessary staff and outside agencies to manage the admissions process for all individuals admitted to the facility, ensuring timely completion of all steps of the process. This position works in coordination with unit nurse managers to ensure adequate staffing for all shifts and all units.

On occasion, if there is an overlap of both house supervisors on day shift, one will serve patient needs on an assigned unit as scheduled by nursing management.

This position will work two 12-hour shifts (7:00 am - 7:30 pm) and two 8-hour shifts (7:00 am - 3:30 am). This position will be required to work weekends on a rotating basis. This position may be required to work overtime as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Be a graduate from an accredited school of registered nursing.
Considerable work experience as a psychiatric Registered Nurse.
Previous supervisory experience as a Registered Nurse.
Current and in good standing Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.

This position will also require:
Knowledge of the theory and practice of nursing and psychiatric nursing.
Knowledge and skills related to psychosocial rehabilitation/recovery models.
Knowledge of SVMHI admissions process.
Basic Computer Skills.
Successfully complete and maintain throughout employment CPR, BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO) training, and other required training as required by the facility.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills, team focused care and professional approach.
Display the ability to plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders, and cultural needs of the individual psychiatric patient.
Present good clinical knowledge and resources to staff.
Experience/ability to delegate, supervise, evaluate nursing processes to help solve complex problems.
Be available to work some weekends and holidays in rotation with other Admissions Coordinator/House Supervisors.
Possess a valid driver's license and maintain active license throughout employment.

Additional Considerations

Experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.
Veterans and people with National Service.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
