Position Summary:
The DS US Region Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will work with internal and external customers as a field-based scientific and clinical guide who strategically supports communication of medical scientific information relevant to BD products.
Focus of this MSL position is microbiology diagnostics (including blood culture, microbiology lab automation, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing), and molecular lab automation
The candidate will have in-depth knowledge of in-vitro diagnostics and have a solid understanding of basic science, clinical infectious diseases (with an in-depth understanding and appreciation for sepsis, hospital-acquired infections, and growing antimicrobial resistance), basic microbiology, basic molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial agents, relevant clinical guidelines, general clinical medicine, critical appraisal of the literature, and biostatistics, and a passion for improving patient outcomes through improving diagnostic processes.
The MSL will have provide product and field scientific support to Marketing, Medical Affairs (MA), Market Shaping, and Sales by utilizing academic credentials, clinical experience and knowledge, scientific expertise, and their ability to synthesis, simplify and communicate accurate, evidence-based diagnostic information to connect with healthcare providers, academic researchers, and organizations. These relationships ensure that key opinion leaders (KOLs) and organizations have access to relevant scientific information, and that insights captured externally are communicated to key cross-functional partners internally.
The MSL will be responsible for staying up to date on the most recent studies that included BD products, evidence related to disease states being tested by BD products, guidelines relevant to the scientific or clinical use of their products, FDA and regulatory body updates, and any additional scientific, regulatory or clinical updates details related to the assigned BD products.
Understands the US healthcare system, medical practice, and clinical decision making especially around infectious diseases and institutional programs focused on sepsis, hospital-acquired infections, and increasing antimicrobial resistance.
Functional Responsibilities:
Implement strategic, scientific, and educational initiatives to achieve Medical Affairs and Commercial key driver goals
Lead scientific exchange conversations to raise disease state and product awareness among healthcare professionals including laboratory professionals, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and hospital leaders
Interact with various customer segments via one-on-one interactions, small group discussions, formulary review committees, and educational symposium presentations.
Assist in facilitating KOL involvement in national, regional, and local educational forums including advisory boards, investigator meetings, educational symposia, and sponsored promotional programs
Engage with and maintain credible peer-to-peer scientific relationships with national/regional key opinion leaders (KOLs)
Heightens awareness of disease management practices and diagnostic standard methodologies and guidelines to healthcare provider and external partners
Develop education and training programs for HCP (Healthcare Professionals) and internal BD associates
Serve as the medical reviewer and approver for advertising and promotional material
Addresses unsolicited off-label questions from the field.
Work with medical affairs clinical project leads to disseminate findings from post-market studies related to BD IDS products
Work as a partner with global MSL team
Work in partnership with medical writing team on manuscript and abstract development
