Job Duties

This position provides mental health services to inmates including crisis intervention, screening, psychological report writing, psychoeducational services, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, and release planning under the supervision and direction of the Psychologist/Mental Health Clinician Senior. Screens, tracks, and monitors inmates with mental health services needs in intake, general population, and Restorative Housing. Involved in the development, implementation, and monitoring of mental health services, policies and programs at the facility. May be involved with special units or programs. Serves as a consultant to Administration, Security, Treatment and Community Corrections staff. Provides in-service training.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the current educational theory and practices; knowledge of educational administration; general knowledge of state and federal guidelines relating to regular and special education; school law; and school finance. Ability to plan, supervise and evaluate educational & Library programs. Effective oral and written communication skill and the willingness to accept and ability to collaborate with and manage people effectively. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a complex educational facility. Proficient with PC and Microsoft Office software.
Must have a valid Virginia Teaching Certificate. A Master’s Degree in Education with an endorsement in Educational Administration and Supervision is required. Several years of teaching experience is required. Experience working with multi-discipline educational programs is required. Experience with the current educational theory and practices; Experience in educational administration relating to regular and special education; school law; and school finance. Experience of planning, supervising, and evaluating educational & Library programs. Experience in leading and directing a complex educational facility.

Note: Successful candidates are responsible for any renewal points to maintain a teaching license under the guidelines of Virginia Department of Education to comply with the requirements for continued employment in this position. If seeking reciprocity from another state, candidates must submit all documentation for a Virginia Teaching License within 90 days of employment and satisfy all requirements within a year

Additional Considerations

Prior experience working in a correctional education or other alternative setting. Considerable educational administration and/or teaching experience in a correctional environment or alternative setting. Knowledge of correctional education or other alternative setting is preferred. Knowledge/ability and prior experience in performance management is preferred

Experience providing mental health services in a correctional, forensic, outpatient or other setting. Licensed as a clinician, QMHP or be QMHP eligible as dictated by the Code of Virginia
