Job Description Summary

The I&C hardware Engineer works within the I&C Engineering team and is responsible for designing and implementing I&C electronic hardware and software for I&C systems for Nuclear Power Plants. The I&C hardware team has strong interfaces with electronic software design and plant system operations. This role requires technical problem solving, strong hardware design skills and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GEH business functions.

The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered within 200 miles of Wilmington, NC.

Essential Responsibilities  

The Hardware and Test Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering electronic hardware designs and testing strategies.  Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities:

  • Develop creative solutions and reduce complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.  
  • Typical hardware activities will include creating a design from requirements and helping define requirements where necessary.
  • Design activities include schematic design, component selection, PCB layout, PLD/FPGA design, performing simulation/module testing, PLD/FPGA code reviews, and integration testing of the design.  This also includes design verification of these same activities.
  • Documenting designs by creating Design Specifications, performing PLD/FPGA code reviews, and writing test reports.
  • Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
  • Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements, and work processes.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
  • Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
  • Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline.  Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Develop system verification and validation test requirements to ensure products meet system specification and performed this in a leadership role.
  • Develop testware, test plans & procedures to implement requirements. 
  • Perform Testing to support component failure analysis including report generation.
  • Interface with designers and validate their outputs.
  • Generate and verify test documentation.
  • Prepare manual and automated production test procedures for components, assemblies and instruments.
  • Drive compliance with GEH and industry-based systems lifecycle processes, participate in design and technical reviews and promote continuous improvements.
  • Support documentation, analysis and resolution of conditions adverse to quality for Services IC control systems through the GEH Corrective Action Program

 

 Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical, computer or software engineering from an accredited college of university.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with creating and maintaining electronic circuit boards.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the field.

Eligibility Requirement:

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered within 200 miles of Wilmington, NC.
  • This role will require a minimum of once-a-month travel to Wilmington, NC for onsite testing.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with PCB design, signal analysis and system verification tools (Altium, PSpice, System Verilog, UVM, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with common HDL languages and PLD/FPGA development tools (Quartus, Vivado, ModelSim, Questa, etc.).
  • General knowledge and experience of schematic design, PCB layout, and PCB manufacturing.
