The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent Experience REQUIRED: N/A Experience PREFERRED: 6 months – 1 year working in an Operating Room environment strongly preferred Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and supplies preferred. Organizational skills and ability to multitask. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Education/training REQUIRED: Completion of state recognized CNA program; or Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum or VCU/MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261 or Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses. Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinicalrotation in that area; or Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) year Education/training PREFERRED: N/A Independent action(s) required: Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN. in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs. Job Duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: OR Support Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
