The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner.Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent Experience REQUIRED: N/A Experience PREFERRED: 6 months – 1 year working in an Operating Room environment strongly preferred Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and supplies preferred. Organizational skills and ability to multitask. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Education/training REQUIRED: Completion of state recognized CNA program; or Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum or VCU/MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261 or Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses. Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinicalrotation in that area; or Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) year Education/training PREFERRED: N/A Independent action(s) required: Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN. in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs. Job Duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: OR Support Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed. Age Specific groups served: All age groups Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs. Other: describe exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances Activities: Prolonged standing, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), Repetitive motion Mental/Sensory: Problem solving, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking Emotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent changeRotating
