JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State Berkey Creamery is currently seeking a student intern to assist in the processing of dairy products in the Creamery Plant.
Duties include:
- Assist in the production of dairy products in selected areas of manufacturing including fluid milk processing and bottling; ice cream processing and packaging; cultured dairy products processing and packaging
- Assist in production support activities from receiving of materials through distribution of finished products
- Assist in the operation of equipment including completing pre-operative and post-operative activities
- Perform sanitation or inventory count duties as requested
- Rotate responsibilities as deemed appropriate to enhance experience and support manufacturing including cross assignments in Quality Assurance/Quality Control
- Assist in the development of SOP’s and SSOP’s and other manufacturing procedures
- Prepare supplies for routine production including ingredient preparation, packaging preparation, etc.
- Conduct routine monitoring of finished products to assure compliance with all quality/regulatory standards including in-process quality checks
- Assess equipment and methods for improved manufacturing performance
- Actively participate in trials in the Creamery plant or Food Science pilot plant in conjunction with the Technical Service Staff and Creamery Management
- Collect, analyze, review and summarize production data, as required, to support manufacturing. Participate in productivity efforts as assigned.
- Participate in safety and quality inspections. Prepare written final reports; present summaries of findings to Creamery Management and Food Science Staff, as deemed appropriate.
- Participate in off-site field trips to enhance learning as deemed appropriate
- Maintain clean work areas to the satisfaction of the supervisor; Interact with Creamery Management and Staff, Technical Service Staff, Food Science Staff and other internal or extern
