The Role at a Glance

As a Manager, Group Underwriting, you will manage a team of underwriting professionals in the Under 750 segment. You are responsible for overseeing the adherence to policies, setting priorities, communicating key goals, tracking performance, and training team members to ensure success.

What you'll be doing

  • Actively works with appropriate internal stakeholders to implement and oversee the adherence of underwriting process and procedures.
  • Ensures adherence to delegated authority approval limits.
  • Ensures Quality Assurance and Training recommendations are incorporated into employee development and performance measurement.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained within Group Underwriting.
  • Establishes and implements individual and team priorities, performance goals and objectives to ensure completion of responsibility.
  • Forges strong professional relationships with key partners (internal and external), with strong emphasis on collaboration with Actuarial and Distribution partners.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and escalates non-standard risks on the pricing of prospective offers, in force business, renewal business and implementation of block strategy.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Manages and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives.
  • Manages and evaluates individual/team performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards.
  • Manages to ensure workloads are appropriately balanced among team members.
  • Provides oversight on the resolution of underwriting issues.
  • Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Serves as a resource to team members and internal/external stakeholders on more complex assignments/projects.
  • Underwrites complex applications and analyzes exceptions as necessary.

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

  • 5+ Years of risk management experience with substantial background in group ancillary benefits including 2+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)

The pay range for this position is $69,000 - $124,600 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law.
