Job Description

Job Title: Director, Fund Accounting

Reports to: Vice President, Fund Accounting

Primary Responsibilities: The Director of Fund Accounting will serve as the leader for the Fund Accounting Team. This position will be responsible for developing and managing a team to operate the accounting, reporting and on-going development and monitoring of controls systems designed to report accurate financial results. In addition, this position will work alongside other members of the accounting team and interdepartmentally with operations, investor relations and investment groups, to identify process improvements to ensure financial accuracy.

Skills & Competencies:

  • BA or BS required; Accounting or Finance degree preferred 
  • 8-10+ years of overall general accounting experience, with 4+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Real Estate experience
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience using an ERP like Yardi or MRI is preferred
  • Experience with financial controls and auditing processes 
  • Advanced Excel skills, and proficiency in other Microsoft Office programs
  • Superior communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to produce high-quality work in a deadline-oriented environment and an ability to multi-task
  • Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the “why”
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Process improvement and project management minded
  • Experience working in a work schedule environment, including in-office operation, weekends, and holidays, based on business need

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for oversight of the day-to-day accounting functions of the fund accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Responsible for the monthly GL closings to ensure Fund level reporting can be completed per reporting requirements
  • Oversee preparation of monthly fund financials and present key fund financial metrics to VP of Fund Accounting and CFO
  • Oversee enhancements of ERP system to improve reporting and fund accounting processes
  • Lead the annual audit and tax return process
  • Analyze and report on intercompany transactions
  • Lead communications between parent company finance groups
  • Lead the implementation and development of new policies, procedures, and features to improve the workflow of the team and provide training to new or existing staff
  • Actively contribute to the development of internal controls to ensure growth and scalability
  • Create, implement, and maintain processes and systems to maximize the quality and accuracy of fund accounting and reporting.
  • Maintain a documented system of fund accounting policies and procedures
  • Continue to build out and update structure of the fund accounting team to support the current and projected needs of the organization
  • Responsible for continued development of the fund accounting team members
  • Liaison with other departments to roll out initiatives to support company growth
  • Strategic ad-hoc analysis and special projects as required

Key Metrics & Responsibilities

  • Uphold company standards when working with business partners to ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls, while also providing support on special requests when required.
  • Execute monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, reports) in compliance with GAAP
  • Aid in coordinating quarterly reviews and testing with internal and external auditors

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of working extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities, including the exchange
