Research Support, Reservoir Characterization Project (RCP)

This part-time position exists to provide IT support for the Reservoir Characterization Project (RCP) research. This position will collaborate with the RCP Directors and Pls, visiting scholars, approximately 20 graduate students, 2-3 undergraduate students, alumni and representatives of approximately 30 industry sponsors to create and maintain secure data servers, licensing, and hardware for RCP research.

Responsibilities:

• Installation and configuration of Windows Servers and Workstations operating systems
• Installation and configuration of Red Hat Linux and similar Linux operating systems
• Troubleshoot hardware and software errors on PC-based systems
• Configuration of network parameters for Windows and Linux systems and interoperability
• Familiar with network security best practices
• Establish firewalls as needed
• Domain controllers
• Write scripts to administrate Windows and Linux computers
• Set up server licensing for commercial geoscientific software
• Install commercial software for geoscientific applications
• Set up network storage for sharing between Windows and Linux computers
• Interpersonal skills to help graduate students and faculty with the use of computers and software
• Training of on-site IT supplemental support personnel

Qualifications:

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, and/or Geosciences
• Data/Systems security management, Certified CompTIA Security specialist
• Programming capability in Python, MatLab, Pascal, C, Fortran, DOS
• Proficient in UNIX, Linux, Solaris, AIX, and Windows
• 2D, 3D, and 9C Seismic Data Processing and Management expertise
• Expertise in Systems administration, Network and Internet Management
• Expertise in Cluster Management, workstation and server design/installation
• Database design and administration
• HPC administration expertise

Annual Rate 

$30.00 - $40.00 per hour for up to 10 hours per week

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
