About this job:
The Manager of Mental Health and Student Safety works collaboratively and cross-functionally with department staff, school leaders and community organizations to address areas of culturally responsive social, emotional, mental health and behavioral health. Leads mental health and behavior program staff, providing expertise, coaching and support in assigned program areas.
The Manager of Mental Health and Student Safety guides and supports mental health programming, staff, offering expertise, and coaching within their designated program domain. Coordinates efforts to enhance student safety support systems, and crisis prevention and intervention, and postvention within a broader prevention and intervention framework. Works with district leadership and school teams to develop systems and structures that support the evaluation for and implementation of student safety programming and individual student needs.
The Manager also provides guidance and support to teams on how to evaluate and implement student safety programming and practices, support for individual students, including researching, designing, and implementing strategies to support the achievement of students with disabilities and who exhibit student safety needs. Provide supervision and guidance for the student safety coordinator team who are hired centrally in DPS.

- Provide direct supervision and evaluation of student safety coordinators, including responsibility for hiring, onboarding, and day-to-day management
- Lead the development and implementation of district-wide practices, policies, and procedures related to student safety, including oversight of threat assessments, suicide prevention/intervention, and other safety protocols
- Plan and deliver professional development and technical consultation to school-based and district staff across multiple departments to support implementation of student safety efforts
- Coordinate with internal departments, school leaders, and external partners to ensure effective service delivery, alignment of supports, and monitoring of implementation and outcomes
- Develop, implement, and monitor the district safety review committee processes to support students with intensive needs and ensure continuity of care
- Organize, deploy, and lead postvention supports, leads the District Crisis Recovery Team (DCRT) for the district and collaborates with the broader Denver community
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of student safety programs and centrally provided supports, using results to inform continuous improvement and team goals
- Other duties as assigned
- Master's Degree in School Social Work, School Psychology, School Counseling or related field with expertise in Mental/Behavioral Health, Student Safety, Suicide Prevention, Threat Response and Crisis and Recovery supports is required
- Three (3+) years of School Mental / Behavioral Health, prevention / intervention programming experience related to student safety is required
