Position Title: Maintenance/Landscape Technician I
Corps/Department: AK Divisional Headquarters
Reports To: Divisional Property Coordinator
FLSA Status: Full-Time / 40 hours per week; Non-Exempt
Scope of Position/Essential Functions:
The Maintenance/Landscape Technician I is responsible for helping, along with the members of the maintenance team, in keeping the facility operating and repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen. This position will also be assisting the maintenance team and Division Property Coordinator with various special projects in Anchorage and Southeast AK. This position will perform a wide range of repair or construction tasks around a facility and may require some out-of-town travel.
The Maintenance/Landscape Technician I is also responsible for hands-on beautification of Salvation Army properties - both commercial and residential as directed by the Division Property Coordinator. Tasks involved include lawn maintenance, weeding, installation and caring for a variety of plants.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Basic skills in facilities, grounds, and vehicle maintenance through hands-on-experience or have completed comparable Technical/Vocational
- Knowledgeable in MS Office Suite. (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Able to work with minimal
- Excellent customer relations skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Valid Alaska Driver’s License with acceptable driving and criminal history records.
- Must meet all state requirements to be in compliance with DOT and Alaska state rules, which may include obtaining a medical certification from an approved provider.
Essential Functions:
- Mowing, edging and fertilizing lawns.
- Weeding and mulching landscape beds.
- Trimming small trees, hedges, and shrubs.
- Removing unwanted, dead, or damaged trees.
- Planting shrubs, flowers, and trees.
- Watering gardens, lawns, and landscapes.
- Monitoring and maintaining plant health.
- Snow removal and spreading sand to prevent slipping on walkways and parking areas as
- Responsible for the upkeep and minor repairs of building and
- Maintain neat, clean, and safe work environment including responsibility for inventory of supplies, equipment, and machinery necessary for effective job
- Assist Maintenance Technician II with maintaining and servicing utilities in heat, electrical, plumbing and
- General maintenance of facilities and property within scope of

- Promptly addresses spills and stains (prioritizing based on safety).

- Stock supplies and materials needed. Keep storage areas neat and
- General cleaning of properties as directed by
- Routine maintenance of vehicles, including checking accident kits, vehicle registration, and necessary insurance documentation. Ensure maintenance log is maintained and presented at least quarterly at the business
- Responsible to drive daily to multiple worksites and local stores (when necessary)

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
