Position Summary:
The Program for Patient Safety and Quality (PPSQ) supports improvement work throughout Boston Children’s. The team includes physician leaders, improvement consultants, patient safety reviewers, clinical effectiveness experts, and many others.
The Healthcare Data Analyst II is a member of the PPSQ Evaluation and Analytics Team and delivers readily available and actionable data to inform and influence team decision-making and drives better patient care and outcomes. Provides data support for aggregation of healthcare data, including quality, patient, and financial, to support departmental reporting needs. Researches, designs, develops, implements, and maintains reporting and analytical facilities in the context of the hospital's clinical and/or financial systems. Provides analytical and technical guidance to clients. This is a hybrid position based in Boston, with at least two days onsite responsibilities per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Researches, designs, develops, implements, and maintains reporting and analytical facilities in the context of the hospital's clinical and/or financial systems. Collaborates with clinical and administrative staff to ensure that reports are timely, accurate, meaningful, and interpretable. Ensures that analyses and reports provide detailed, specific data regarding performance of individuals, teams, programs, divisions, and the department as a whole. Generate reports from a variety of internal and external sources, e.g. Epic, enterprise data warehouse, specialty-specific registries.
- Performs standardized data validation activities to ensure the highest quality information for decision-making.
- Using data reporting and visualization tools and techniques creates dashboards and reports for decision-making.
- Builds new databases as needed, and maintains a valid and accurate data repository to ensure availability of required information. Advises on the development of data collection and management systems. Defines specifications for key data elements, data collection procedures, and integrity of databases. Improves and maintains the production environment for tasks and applications.
- Provides analyses and reports of performance indicators, providing trended data using statistical process control or other appropriate techniques.
- Interprets data and provides team with data-driven recommendations.
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics , or a similar field preferred.
- 2 years experience utilizing Data Analytics tools required; clinical setting experience preferred.
- Proficient in SQL syntax and coding practices. Experience with dimensional data modeling concepts used in data warehousing, business intelligence, and business analytics applications.
- Experience with Epic reporting tools preferred.
- Experience with statistical programming languages (e.g. SAS, R, or Python), statistical process control methods, or REDCap preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to translate reporting needs expressed in clinical or operational terms to technical solutions based on existing data, data structures, and query tool functionality.
