Your Specific Responsibilities:

Incumbent serves under the direction of a manager/supervisor conducting routine and complex medical quality assurance inspections and investigations relating to alleged violations of practice acts/rules under the jurisdiction of the Department.

  • Conduct sterile compounding pharmacy inspections and specialized cases involving sterile compounding. 
  • Conduct trainings and give presentations regarding sterile compounding to investigative staff and licensees.
  • Conduct pharmacy inspections and specialized cases involving drug delivery systems within hospitals, nursing homes and facilities requiring permits. 
  • Conduct and assist other investigative staff in drug accountability audits.
  • Provide technical assistance to MQA investigators in specialized cases involving drug-related investigations.
  • Provide technical expertise in rule making and statutory review as requested. 
  • Work with Department drug enforcement program.
  • Investigate violations discovered during the inspection process. 
  • Prepare investigative reports, audit reports and probation reports. 
  • Testify at hearings, provide professional assistance to the legal staff, investigative staff, and other regulatory agencies. 
  • Serve subpoenas and administrative complaints.
  • Conduct on-site inspections prior to approval for permitting new pharmacy establishments and change of location requests to determine compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Ensure procedures in institutional pharmacies are adequate and adhere to policies and procedures established for the facility.
  • Review drug delivery systems to ensure compliance with rules and regulations pursuant to written policy and procedure for the facility.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of investigative staff in pharmacy and drug related investigations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; knowledge of computer data bases; knowledge and use of the compliance management system and licensing system used by the Agency; knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures and government rules & regulations; knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar; understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents; communicating effectively with others in writing; talking to others to effectively convey information; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy; ability to develop and maintain a perpetual inventory control system; ability to evaluate pharmacy methods, procedures, and services; ability to plan, organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to work independently; knowing how to find information and identifying essential information; finding ways to structure or classify multiple pieces of information; inspecting and evaluating the quality of products; ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail; ability to provide training; ability to maintain strict confidentiality; experience with compounding sterile products or directly overseeing the compounding of sterile products.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a pharmacist in accordance with Florida Statute 465 and one-year professional experience in the practice of pharmacy;
  • Two (2) years of direct sterile compounding experience, obtained within the last five (5) years.
