The Role

BuzzFeed is looking for a Production Technology Developer Manager to join our Prod Tech team. This is a multi-faceted role that combines key features from a few different areas of experience. We are seeking a dynamic individual who doesn’t mind wearing multiple hats and loves the full end-to-end software development process. This role will be instrumental in maintaining our video production workflow by increasing efficiency with automation, and by orchestrating data between multiple databases.

This role is contracted as a project-based full-time position. Pay range is dependent on experience. Candidates may be fully remote but will primarily work during daytime in North American time zones, such as: ET, CT, MT, or PT.

You Will:

• Serve as the primary project management lead for developer initiatives when assisting other departments, offering a friendly persona to address their technical needs.
• Act as a team lead and provide guidance to junior developers to ensure minimum service downtime and appropriate development pace on larger projects.
• Manage a slate of project roadmaps, including long-term internal projects and also quick turnaround individual requests.
• Build and maintain business intelligence reports in Airtable, Looker Studio and Google Sheets.
• Write clean, maintainable, scalable code that satisfies all business requirements within the project scope.
• Build low-code solutions to automate common workflows using tools such as Zapier and Airtable.
• Leverage more advanced technologies for bigger projects, such as Node.js, React, Python and Google Apps Script.
• Gather business requirements and guide stakeholders towards an achievable minimum viable product, and conduct handoff of deliverables with stakeholders when finished.
• Debug the code of existing applications, and maintain up-to-date documentation on in-house applications and workflows.
• Monitor daily health of platforms/scripts required for workflow, including Google App Script, Airtable, Zapier, and internal systems.

You Have:

• 3+ years experience with scripting languages (javascript, python, bash).
• 2+ years experience working with API integrations.
• 1+ years of experience in web development.
• Excellent knowledge of Google Workspace/G Suite apps, including Sheets, Docs, and Drive.
• Excellent knowledge of JIRA and/or other Agile workflows.
• Experience building UI components with React is a plus.
• Experience using Python (especially the Tornado framework for async API development) is a plus.
• Experience using Next.js and/or Node.js is a plus.
• Experience creating Google Chrome extensions is a plus.
• Excellent communication & time management.
