Job Details:

Purpose

This is a research position for a synthetic chemist with experience synthesizing multi-gram quantities of air and/or moisture-sensitive compounds, as well as mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize a library of organic compounds through multi-step synthesis.

  • Fully characterize all products within the library.

  • Collaborate with team members to screen the library of compounds for reactivity.

  • Train undergraduate and graduate students in the skills of organic synthesis.

  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment in the laboratory

  • Assist in project management.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in synthetic chemistry and postdoctoral experience, experience in synthetic organic chemistry and mentorship of junior colleagues.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in multi-step synthesis (10+ steps) and medium scale synthesis (5+g of target compound)

  • Experience in organometallic chemistry

  • Experience in mechanism determination

  • Experience in working on multi-PI research projects

Salary Range

$58,744 + depending on qualifications

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
