The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)
The Float Pool Phlebotomist provides dedicated phlebotomy support across acute care nursing units, functioning as a mobile resource to support timely lab collection and patient throughput. The role partners closely nursing and clinical teams to ensure efficient specimen collection, reduce delays in care, and enhance the patient experience.
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary collections with a high degree of accuracy, while prioritizing STAT and time sensitive orders.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) required.
Experience:
Minimum one year of related experience preferred.

Training in Phlebotomy including practical as well as classroom training.
Basic computer skills

Usual Work Day:
12 hours - 7am-7pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs accurate venipuncture and capillary blood collection across assigned nursing units
- Serve as a float resource responding to real time unit needs
- Prioritize STAT, timed and urgent lab collections to support clinical decision making and patient flow
- Collaborate with nursing staff to coordinate lab draws and minimize delays in care
- Ensure proper patient identification, specimen labeling, and adherence to all collection protocols
- Maintain integrity of specimens, including proper handling, transport, and storage
- Perform blood culture collections using strict aseptic technique and established protocols to minimize contamination rates and support accurate diagnostic results
- Navigate between unit efficiently while maintaining productivity and responsiveness
- Monitor and communicate delays, difficult draws, or patient concerns to nursing staff and department leadership
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure supplies are adequately stocked across supported units
- Utilize electronic systems to review orders, document collections, and track workflow
- Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards at all times
- Observe patient condition and respond appropriately to adverse reactions during collection
- Performs other duties as required.
