In this role, employees are responsible for providing leadership and oversight within the Anaplan COE to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of Anaplan development efforts, supporting Markel’s business objectives and strategies. Team Leads will act as a subject matter expert, sharing skills and knowledge; serve in a leadership capacity, fostering teamwork; and function as a mentor, promoting the growth and skills development of Anaplan modelers and end-users.

  • Lead efforts to understand business processes and pain points that result in designing flexible, scalable solutions that optimize the end-user experience
  • Contribute to managerial responsibilities such as input on performance review and team goal setting
  • Work across multiple business units, establishing relationships to ensure that Anaplan models effectively support Markel’s goals
  • Demonstrate leadership by creating and maintaining a governance framework and best practices to standardize the design, development and deployment of Anaplan solutions
  • Partner with other functional areas to identify, recommend and implement continuous process improvements
  • Mentor and coach others via guidance, instruction, direction and leadership
  • Exhibit tactical thinking by  identifying system optimization opportunities and enabling future development requirements
  • Remain current on Anaplan technical developments and trends, deciphering which could be beneficial to Markel
  • Manage day-to-day activities of team members, lead DSU meetings, and assign enhancement and RTE work w/oversight
  • Work with multiple internal teams to gain a deeper understanding of financial data, to confirm assumptions, and validate output of analyses
  • Maintain and execute development efforts associated with the Anaplan roadmap

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, management information systems, or similar discipline preferred

Certification

  • Anaplan Certified Solution Architect designation is a plus, but not required
  • Project management or Agile certification is a plus, but not required

Work Experience/Skill Set

  • Minimum 5 years of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes experience preferred
  • 3+ years of Anaplan modeling experience highly recommended
  • Familiarity as an end user or administrator with multi-dimensional technologies is preferred (Oracle Hyperion, IBM TM1, SAP BPC, etc.)
  • Experience supporting applications in the financial planning space
  • Experience within a client facing role with good interpersonal skills and a focus on collaborative working solutions
  • Strong Excel and data manipulation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability to translate functional requirements into planning and forecasting models
  • Articulates issues clearly and communicates effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Listens well and is receptive to others' ideas and suggestions, encouraging open and collaborative dialogue among team members
  • Curious individual who has a strong willingness to learn and develop new skills as part of a growing team

Main Objectives:

  • Strengthen Anaplan skills demonstrated by working towards Anaplan Certified Master Anaplanner status
