Introducing: Data EngineerWe want to add a Data Engineer to our expanding Scientific Computing team at our Lexington, MA location. This hybrid position reports to the Principal Scientific Data Architect, and will require you to be on-site 50% (or more) each week. Your demonstrated interest in either chemistry or biology will enhance your collaboration with biologists, chemists, and ML specialists to deliver bespoke tools and analyses of early stage drug discovery data.  Clear communication and a flexible approach are essential as your work will significantly impact the goals Anagenex aims to achieve.

You’ll own:

• Data process pipeline to deliver bespoke analyses of early stage drug discovery data
• Work as a developer on the team and deliver the primary data analysis pipeline
• Partner with ML specialists to provide them useful data
• Collaborate with biologists and chemists as you work together to solve complex analyses or data design challenges

You’ll assist:

• Design, maintain and upgrade registration and analysis tools
• Processing and validation of very large data sets
• Performing and communicating analyses (including ML results) to bench scientists

Skills & expertise you have:

• A BS or MS degree in a Computer Science discipline with 0+ years experience, OR a BS/MS in Chemistry or Biology with 2+ years of professional programming experience
• Experience with Python
• Familiarity with SQL
• Chemistry or Biology lab-based classwork or equivalent experience
• Good communication skills. Mentoring or tutoring experience a plus as this role requires the ability to explain compute-oriented concepts to non-compute professionals

Within 1 month, you’ll…

• Learn how we combine DNA Encoded Libraries, Affinity Selection Mass Spectrometry and Machine Learning to accelerate early stage discovery
• Become familiar with compute infrastructure

Within 3 months, you’ll…

• Work with bench scientists to provide bespoke analysis of experimental results
• Begin learning our Benchling (lab notebook) schema
• Participate with basic data registration and validation
• Have been working with our engineering team to support/extend our data processing pipeline

Within 6 months, you’ll…

• Develop bespoke tools to assist bench scientists with complex data analysis
• Be an active developer on a small team working on delivering production-ready applications or pipeline components
• Continue to learn about our data models (Benchling and datalake), write SQL queries to address complex questions

Within 12 months, you’ll…

• Serve as the primary Compute Team representative on target-focused matrix teams
• Continue to assist scientists with complex data analysis tasks as needed
• Contribute to discussions around data requirements and approaches for analysis
• Work with Benchling and lab scientists to update and extend our lab notebook data model to reflect changes to our lab practice
• Continue working on our compute infrastructure, either independently or as a co-developer on a small team.
