Overview
The Project Manager III will serve as an experienced professional to serve as the liaison between Airport IT projects, Operations, and stakeholders, ensuring coordination and minimizing operational impacts through strong knowledge of LAX operations, airport technology systems, contractor management, and cross-functional collaboration. The candidate will possess strong knowledge of airport operations at Los Angeles International Airport, along with a comprehensive understanding of airport technology systems, infrastructure, and the IT frameworks that support operational equipment. This individual will collaborate closely with internal teams, airline partners, LAWA stakeholders, and contractors to support project coordination, with a focus on identifying and mitigating operational impacts through the application of airport operational expertise.
This position requires demonstrated experience in contractor management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional coordination. The candidate will be able to translate operational needs into technology-driven solutions and maintain a broad understanding of airport equipment and systems, including their integration with IT networks and infrastructure, to support seamless implementation across multiple terminals.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties
- Serve as the primary liaison between Airport IT project teams, Airport Operations, and key stakeholders.
- Facilitate alignment and communication across internal teams, airline partners, LAWA stakeholders, and contractors.
- Provide timely and accurate updates on project status, milestones, risks, and dependencies.
- Support coordination of IT project activities across multiple terminals to ensure consistency and awareness.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify potential operational impacts and support mitigation efforts through operational expertise.
- Coordinate and engage with contractors to support project execution, scheduling, and compliance with operational requirements.
- Participate in project meetings, site walks, and operational briefings to maintain situational awareness.
- Assist in tracking project progress, action items, and deliverables to support successful implementation.
- Support the integration of airport equipment and systems with IT infrastructure, ensuring alignment with operational needs.
- Identify risks, gaps, and coordination challenges, and escalate as appropriate.
- Foster strong working relationships across terminals and stakeholder groups to support efficient project delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Aviation, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Planning or other related technical field required.
- Relevant professional licensure and/or certification are strongly preferred. Certifications may include AAAE, LEED, PE, PMP, AICP, etc.
Hardware/Software Knowledge
- Knowledge of airport operational IT systems, end-user hardware, and integrated airport infrastructure, including SITA systems, airport IT infrastructure and tie-in integrations, PMWeb, Bluebeam, Adobe Pro, SharePoint, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and familiarity with airport systems such as FIDS, AODB, BHS systems, kiosks, and gate/terminal operational equipment supporting day-to-day airport operations.
Professional Experience Level/Other Qualifications
- 15 years or more experience, preferably on airport projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively between technical and non-technical audiences.
- High level of organizational awareness and operational understanding.
- Excellent coordination, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced airport environment.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven mindset.
- Proven experience in Airport Operations, preferably within a large hub environment such as Los Angeles International Airport.
- Experience working in closely related fields such as airline operations, terminal management, and project management.
