Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum Education and Experience: Master’s degree and five (5) years of work experience with college-aged students
- Ability, education, and/or training in pastoral care, preaching, and discipleship in a sports context.
- A capacity to impart and integrate Christian theology, wisdom, and practice to those who serve and lead in a sports environment.
- An approach to work that reflects strong communication, emotional intelligence, wise time management, attention to detail, and the ability to self-motivate.
- At least three years of experience with supervision and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- A master’s degree in theology, Christian ministry, or adjacent field in addition to at least five years of experience in pastoral care/chaplaincy, preaching, or discipleship within a sports context.
- Comfortable and skilled to impart and integrate Christian theology, wisdom, and practice to those who serve and lead in a sports environment.
- At least five years of experience with supervision and leadership.
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
Essential Functions
- In collaboration with the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Mission Impact & Enrichment, work closely with leadership in the Athletics, Student Life, and Spiritual Life to implement the vision for the Spiritual Growth pillar of Baylor Athletics
- Collaborate with Student-Athlete Center for Excellence senior leadership team in integrating Christian faith principles and concepts in all student-athlete support areas
- Identify, develop and oversee strategies to engage Baylor Athletics community in spiritual growth and engagement
- Equip coaches and administrators through individual and collective discipleship to lead staff and student-athletes within a caring Christian community
- Establish and maintain impactful pastoral relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff by being consistently present and relationally engaged.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and respect for the unique pressures of highly visible coaches and student-athletes while exercising the confidence to challenge and encourage accountability for faithfully stewarding their positions as highly visible representatives of Baylor University.
- Respond to crises and offer ongoing pastoral care to student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
- Recruit, manage, supervise, and train a sports ministry team that includes Athletics staff as well as others serving adjunctly as team chaplains.
- Seamlessly integrate Christian virtues and principles across all student-athlete support and development unit—working collaboratively on the daily care provides to student-athletes across mental health services, sports ministry, character formation, learning support, and all other student-facing units across Athletics.
- Serve as strategic consultant for team domestic and international mission opportunities to enhance mission program by partnership development and current programming.
- Oversight and development of industry-leading chaplaincy program.
- Develop student-athlete spiritual ambassador program consisting of student leaders who actively participate in the work of faith formation and engagement with their teams
- In coordination with SACE leadership team, lead, develop and connect student-athlete spiritual formation/life programming and curriculum.
- In coordination with the Executive Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Services serve as a key member of “Good Life” Care Center with specific emphasis on spiritual enrichment.
- Ensure authentic level of spiritual integration within each of our 19 sport programs.
- Work closely with the Bear Foundation to develop and cultivate donor relations and increase fundraising efforts specific to Sports Ministry.
- Maintain a working knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and Baylor rules and regulations.
