Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Vice President Chief Financial Officer of the enterprise, the Senior Vice President Chief Accounting Officer (SVP CAO) is responsible for overseeing all financial reporting/accounting functions, all financial planning/budgeting functions, capital planning and capital allocation, government reimbursement programs, international finance, decision support and financial analytics, tax planning, and the full suite of transactional services (including accounts payable, payroll) of Cleveland Clinic. The SVP CAO is tasked with ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements and is the responsible executive to Independent Auditors for the quarterly and annual financial reporting (and independent audit) for the enterprise. The SVP CAO also oversees corporate financial operations to ensure alignment with the mission, values and objectives of the organization and department. This includes the tactical development and oversight of financial reporting, centralized financial services, cost accounting, financial data analytics, planning and forecasting, budgeting, capital planning, and global tax compliance. The SVP CAO works closely with the Executive Team and leadership to support strategic planning and decision-making, driving financial performance and organizational growth, and is the go-to financial executive when needed to step-in for the EVP CFO of the enterprise. The SVP CAO is also a corporate officer for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees the preparation, distribution, and public filings of all financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Manages annual audits for Cleveland Clinic Health System and affiliate organizations.
- Safeguards assets and ensures accurate and timely reporting of transactions according to GAAP; is a standing member of the Finance Committee and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
- Analyzes financial results and provides insightful commentary and recommendations to executive management and various committees of the board.
- Architects and coordinates the annual budgeting process, including concurrent forecasting and variance analysis.
- Leads the development of the annual and long-term financial and capital plans of the enterprise.
- Leads the development and implementation of financial reporting systems and processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and other statutory reporting.
- Monitors changes in accounting standards and regulations, assessing their impact on the organization and implementing necessary changes.
- Maintains strong relationships with external auditors, facilitating timely and efficient audit processes.
- Leads the enterprise Internal Control Effectiveness (ICE) program to develop and enforce internal controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley principles, to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Collaborates with the enterprise CEO, CFO, and other senior executives to develop and execute the company’s strategic plan.
- Provides financial insights and analysis to support decision-making and drive business growth.
- Directs a team that supports organizational assessments and decisions on mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.
- Mentors and develops teams fostering a culture of continuous improvement, caregiver engagement and professional growth.
- Leads the International Finance division for the enterprise.
- Oversees day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, nonpatient accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
