About the role

The Senior Process Engineer works as a technical expert on the successful delivery of projects for clients as a member of a project team within a market program (Asset Integrity Management Services).  This includes providing technical expertise to the project manager and project team members with initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling and closing projects.  

What You Will Do:

  • Provide technical expertise on project tasks under the supervision of a project manager to ensure quality services are delivered on schedule and within available budget to meet customer requirements. 
    • Assist project manager with defining and sequencing project tasks, estimating task duration and developing a project schedule as part of developing a project management plan
    • Provide technical expertise to support execution of project tasks
      • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)
      • Participate as subject matter expert in Damage Mechanism Assessments and Corrosion Control Programs
      • Review and interpret material and energy balances
      • Review and interpret sizing and specification of process equipment
      • Process Hazard Analysis (HAZOP), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Risk Assessment, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and/or What-If experience is desired, with facilitation experience a plus
      • Perform hydraulic calculations/pipe sizing
      • Lead and support electrical hazardous area classification (EHAC) studies
      • Experience in medium to heavy industry including refinery/chemical/renewable energy
      • Participate in and assist with Process Safety Management (PSM)
      • Relief valve sizing and specification
      • Working knowledge on the use of process simulation software programs such as ASPEN, HYSYS or similar
    • Develop briefing materials and write reports to communicate concepts and analysis results to client and end users
    • Lead research and data analysis, to include but not limited to assisting with conducting customer or stakeholder analyses.
    • Develop conclusions and recommendations, prepare reports, and assist with client presentations
    • Tracking and report hours spend executing projects
    • Work with individuals at all levels, provide input to reports and other deliverables, execute multiple assignments, meet agreed deadlines, and adjust to changing client demands
    • Performing quality assurance on project deliverables
  • Develop relationships with existing customers to facilitate development of new business. 
    • Attending client meetings to discuss technical topics
    • Meeting with new and existing clients to listen to their needs
    • Communicating client needs to business development, project managers, and supervisors
  • Identify new business opportunities with existing customers for current and/or additional services
    • Participate in marketing activities, growth initiatives, conference presentations, technical whitepapers
    • Assist with proposal development including estimating level of effort, cost estimating, and writing proposals
    • Learn, understand, and be conversant in ABS Group products and services
    • Review published reports and news articles about existing and potential new clients to identify customer intelligence
    • Participate in team development by reviewing resumes, interviewing applicants, and providing feedback on potential candidates
    • Review and selection of new technical software platforms
    • Networking to meet new potential clients

What You Will Need:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Field and Plant (energy, chemical and/or oil and gas industries) and/or consulting service experience preferred. Technical experience in Relief device sizing calculations (API 520/521/2000), Electrical Hazardous Area Classification (NFPA), and other PSM/MI activities also preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChE) or equivalent required
  • Relevant technical certifications
  • Professional engineering license desired (or ability to obtain license within 3 – 5 years)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of the OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM) regulation, including the Mechanical Integrity component (1910.119 (j))
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management and Mechanical Integrity program requirements
  • Experience in developing proposals, including creating the project deliverables list and estimating the resource effort
  • Ability to mentor and develop engineers
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory requirements, codes, standar
