This Columbus based hybrid position is an Investments F band role. Candidates must have prior commercial real estate experience.

The Senior Investment Analyst role is a key member of the asset management team responsible for managing and monitoring a multi-billion-dollar loan portfolio secured by real estate properties located across the United States. Having a commercial real estate background the role will interpret loan documents, analyze operating statements, and prioritize assignments to support both internal and external stakeholders/customers.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Has an experienced understanding of asset class, works independently and has limited oversight.

  • Provides analysis, evaluation and recommends of actions to be taken in response to requests for consent/approval or loan modifications from borrowers in connection with commercial mortgage loans held in the Nationwide general account or managed on behalf of third-party participants.

  • Review and interpretation of loan terms and ancillary provisions set forth in loan agreements for such commercial mortgage loans.

  • Financial statement analysis for borrower entities and collateral property that secure the commercial mortgage loans, as well as, review of annual property inspections.

  • Develop, foster and maintain positive relationships with loan correspondents and other external customers. Communicate pertinent information regarding the status of borrower requests, expected completion timelines, and required approvals (process and procedure transparency).

  • Collaborate and partner with the Real Estate Portfolio Managers and Legal teams on related functions for the commercial mortgage loan portfolio with focus on maturing loans, rate resets, risk mitigation, default resolution, and other transactional business such as loan assumptions, modifications, or other requests.

  • Collaborate and partner with the CML Due Diligence, Closing and Legal teams to draft post-closing checklists and language for asset management responsibilities, including gaining working knowledge of negotiated changes to standard loan agreement provisions.

  • Responsible for inputs (data integrity) of loan information into Nationwide’s loan management system (LMS) and other downstream database or website-related systems.

Typical Skills and Experiences:   

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in real estate, finance, business, or related field

Experience:  2 to 5 years of related experience.   

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:   

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills

  • Commercial real estate background with an emphasis in the interpretation of loan documents, analysis of operating statements

  • Ability to prioritize assignments in an effective manner

  • Working knowledge of real estate fundamentals and the legal interpretation of loan documents preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is desired.
