Director, Academic

The Director will provide leadership in areas of onboarding, training, and continued professional development for advisors, and will serve as a key support for the USF Council of Academic Advising (CAA). In this capacity, the Director will help guide the Council’s work on critical priorities such as policy review, addressing systemic barriers, and fostering collaboration between academic colleges and business units. Additionally, the role is expected to proactively identify concerns, elevate them to leadership, and provide actionable recommendations that advance the advising community’s effectiveness.
Importantly, this role will directly support the BOG PBF metrics by helping ensure advising practices positively impact undergraduate retention, APR, and graduation outcomes. Through coordinated advising strategies, the Director will support data-informed interventions, foster cross-campus collaboration, and contribute to the continuous improvement of institutional performance in these priority areas.
- Leadership and Strategy: Provide strategic leadership and direction for academic administration.
- Policy Implementation: Develop and implement academic policies and procedures.
- Administrative Management: Oversee administrative functions, including budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Program Development: Support the development and evaluation of academic programs.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and university policies, and provide regular reports on academic activities.
- Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of academic administrative professionals, providing guidance and support
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree -OR- equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:
- Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
