RN Ambulatory - Pain Clinic

We are open Monday through Thursday, closed on Fridays, holidays and weekends.  Our nurses transition between the clinic and intra op on a daily basis which is not typical of an ambulatory position where the nurse remains in an office setting every day.  Start time may be as early as 6:00am and shift end time may be as late as 5:30pm.  Depending on the needs that week, there is opportunity for 8-hour and 10-hour shifts.

Scope of work

RN responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling of office appointments and interventional procedures, patient rooming and assessment, thorough assessment of ongoing pain, a knowledge and understanding of available pain interventions and assessment of their effectiveness, patient education, medication administration and monitoring, collection of urine drug screens, taking and placing orders received by providers when indicated, assisting the provider with in office procedures, and interdisciplinarian collaboration for the management of patients. She should be proficient in obtaining insurance prior authorizations for patient home medications, specialized imaging, and interventional procedures, including appealing cases when denied. She is responsible to complete pre anesthesia chart review and patient interview for patients scheduled for interventional procedures in order to obtain a thorough medical history, current medications, allergies, and any contraindications for upcoming procedures. 

Procedure Day Responsibilities (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

The RN is responsible for patient assessment, medication review and administration, insertion, monitoring, and discontinuation of IV access, patient transport, patient transfer from stretcher to bed, patient positioning, administration and monitoring of minimal to moderate IV sedation, monitoring of patient airway, cardiac monitoring, post anesthesia monitoring during patient transport, discharge teaching on follow-up and post procedure care, and providing patient-family centered care.  The RN is responsible for assisting the physician during procedures performed in the surgical service department, arriving early to setup the OR/procedure room, gathering supplies for scheduled procedures, opening and maintaining the sterile field, passing medications and supplies to sterile physician, assisting in monitoring and maintaining patient safety, administering medications if needed, interdisciplinary communication prior to, during and following the procedure, and room tear down and clean up.

Qualifications

• Associates or Diploma in Nursing Required
• Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years if new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience
• Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination
• MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire/transfer from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke.
• ACLS within 4- 6 weeks of hire/transfer.
• Prefer RN experience. May consider New Graduates
