About the role

The Building Systems Electrical Foreman oversees a team of Electrical/Electronic Technicians responsible for the maintenance and prompt response to life safety systems. These technicians are skilled in the analysis, troubleshooting, repair, and adjustment of fire alarm and fire suppression systems within buildings, as well as several traffic signals, generators and utility meters on campus. The position requires ongoing communication with the building automation team to ensure effective issue resolution. The Foreman is tasked with assigning daily responsibilities to technicians, organizing system inspections, and coordinating team training. Additionally, the Foreman will assist the Superintendents and serve as a substitute in their absence. 

  • Lead and oversee Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression projects from their initial stages through to completion. 
  • Collaborate closely with technicians, inspectors, and clients to ensure that all project milestones are met within the designated timelines. 
  • Supervise inspections, installations, and upgrades of Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression systems, ensuring adherence to the standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). 
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to technicians involved in Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression projects, holding regular team meetings to assess project status, tackle challenges, and maintain alignment with objectives. 
  • Direct and manage Traffic Signal projects from inception to completion. 
  • Work in close collaboration with technicians, inspectors, and clients to ensure that all project milestones are achieved within the established timelines. 
  • Oversee inspections, installations, and enhancements of Traffic Signal systems, ensuring compliance with the standards established by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). 
  • Offer direction and assist technicians engaged in Traffic Signal projects, conducting regular team meetings to evaluate project progress, address challenges, and ensure alignment with objectives. 
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of technicians responsible for the maintenance, integration, inspection, and monitoring of Generators and Utility Meters across the campus. 
  • Collaborate closely with both technicians and clients to ensure that all project milestones are met within the designated timelines. 
  • Oversee improvements to the Building Automation System (BAS) interface, ensuring that all modifications comply with the university's established standards. 
  • Provide guidance and guide technicians involved in current and upcoming projects, and conduct regular team meetings to assess progress, tackle challenges, and ensure alignment with project goals. 
  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers to facilitate the timely delivery of inspections and equipment. 
  • Assess and select contractors for specific assignments, monitoring their performance to ensure compliance with quality standards and project specifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: 
    • Vocational or technical training in Electrical or Electronics
  • Experience: Minimum Five (5) years of experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical work
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 
    • Ability to accurately identify and address challenges associated with electrical construction and renovation activities, electronics and controls. 
    • Must be adept at conducting comprehensive research on operational procedures and timelines. 
    • Ability to handle high-pressure situations with poise, assurance, and professionalism. 
    • Effective communication skills to engage with all team members and clients 
    • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications, along with applying pertinent procedures and standards to building systems in alignment with university operational protocols
  • Other Conditions: Valid Driver’s license
