Summary

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! This position supports the Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) as the Inside Machinist. The selected candidate will plan and execute the production of high-precision metal parts by interpreting blueprints and operating manual or CNC machinery.  This role requires mastery of diverse machine tools and precision measuring instruments to ensure all components meet exact technical specifications. This is a full-time position, located in Norfolk, VA. 

What You Will Do

  • Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement and performance consistent with company values.
  • Apply master understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignment.
  • Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
  • Fabricate high-precision components by interpreting technical blueprints and operating manual or CNC machinery to support shipboard system maintenance and installation.
  • Use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents. 
  • Utilize conventional milling machines and laths.
  • Meet standards on various contracts.

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience. 
  • Must have experience working in a team environment.
  • Must be proficient in the use and reading of various measurement devices including but not limited to rulers and scales, micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
  • Must have experience using various power tools and hand tools to accomplish tasks including the proper use of torque wrenches to tighten fasteners according to specifications described in technical documentation.
  • Must be experienced using conventional laths and milling machines.
  • Must be experienced in reading, interpreting and following blueprints, technical drawings and/or technical manuals.
  • Must have knowledge of safety and quality control steps and procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance, and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date, and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Must be able to provide hand tools per trades designation.

Bonus Points For...

  • Candidates who hold a current or active DoD Secret clearance or higher preferred.
  • Experience installing, maintaining and repairing marine structural and mechanical systems and associated equipment for naval vessels in accordance with technical documentation and naval standards.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
