Sierra Nevada Corporation is seeking a knowledgeable Aviation Structures/Sheetmetal Modification Technician for our Dayton, Ohio team. Must have the education and/or skills needed to perform quality work. The ideal candidate will be capable of working with minimal leadership. The candidate should have the experience, knowledge, and training to perform advanced daily work procedures while actively following local Operating Instructions. The role requires timely completion of complex projects with attention to detail, following guidelines, and adhering to OSHA regulations.Key Responsibilities:
- Perform heavy structures repair and modifications on various aircraft.
- Maintain airframes and complete structural damage assessments to facilitate repairs for a diverse fleet of military and civilian aircraft, including but not limited to C-130, KC-135, C-17, KC-46, and 747-8i.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Control and Field Technicians to ensure timely fixes and preventive maintenance.
- Coordinate with other maintenance departments to resolve chronic aircraft issues.
- Ensure compliance with FAA regulations and company standards during inspection, maintenance, and modification tasks.
- Read and interpret system diagrams, engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and quality completion of tasks
- Follow all safety regulations and company procedures
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety regulations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic
- Some coaching and mentoring required
Qualifications You Must Have:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 2 or more years of relevant experience
- A higher level degree may substitute for experience
- Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Basic understanding of applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications; ability to complete installations per technical drawings while maintaining edge distance and pitch
- Experience with structure assembly, minor part fitting techniques, and repair and refinishing such as airframe corrosion removal, as applicable
- Ability to install various fasteners such as rivets and hi-locks
- Must have own tools in good working order
- Candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) in Aviation is a plus
- Proven experience as an Aviation Structures/Sheetmetal Technician. Military or OJT Aviation structures/sheetmetal training is a plus
- FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant License is a plus
- Fastner Manufacturers/Metal Processing Formal training is a plus such as Coldworking, taperloks, roto peening etc.
- Aircraft Manufacturers formal familiarization (GEN FAM) training is a plus.
- Continues improvement belts or certifications are a plus
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense, NASA or US Military
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance m
