Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Terre Haute team is seeking an Operations Leader. This position is responsible for planning and directing all Operational functions for areas of the manufacturing unit to ensure all necessary resources are available and used to drive continuous improvement of the Terre Haute Manufacturing Framework - Working Safe, Satisfying the Customer, Making the Plan and Working Together. The Operations Leader participates as a member of the management staff reporting directly to the Plant Manager; contributing to the achievement of plant and corporate strategic objectives while meeting the Manufacturing Unit Teams internal and external customer requirements. The incumbent will be required to actively support and encourage Lean activities, striving to exceed previous best performances to achieve excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all Manufacturing Unit activities are consistent with all applicable Federal, State and local laws, EHS certifications, as well as Novelis policies and procedures.
- Ensure the Manufacturing Unit is fully supportive of the plant’s Novelis Operating System process and facilitate continued integration of the Novelis Operating System in the manufacturing process.
- Ensure effective leadership of accident/incident investigations, reporting, root cause analysis and corrective actions within the Manufacturing Unit.
- Drive continual improvement of employee engagement in the EHS process through the EHS Steering Committee
- Mentor Process Leaders in development of EHS knowledge and skills.
- Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions at all times.
- Ensure the Manufacturing Unit production meets the requirements of all internal and external customers and the activities support the plant’s quality management system
- Effectively communicate customer satisfaction measurements to all members of the Manufacturing Unit.
- Direct utilization of all available equipment and human resources to manufacture quality products at the lowest cost consistent with meeting customer requirements.
- Direct, develop and train personnel to support the Manufacturing Unit that effectively and continuously strive to improve operational, reliability, technological, financial, regulatory, and organizational performance objectives.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of longer term improvement activities for the Manufacturing Unit.
- Develop and maintain personnel and training requirements and assist in development and implementation of training plans and crew concept development.
- Make recommendations relative to new equipment, metal quality, process refinements, and operating cost reductions and participates in the introduction and development of new equipment and/or new process technology.
- Communicate and promote positive interactions at all levels of the organization and with customers, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are vital in this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- University degree in an industry-related field such as Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Metallurgical Engineering, a business degree or combination of education and experience
- Five years experience to related metals industry equipment, design, maintenance or operation is necessary and prior supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of scheduling, budget development, performance measures and standards is beneficial.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills with the demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others
- Capable of, and comfortable, working effectively in ambiguous situations
- Experience managing/supervising others in dynamic manufacturing environment with demonstrated results.
- Experience developing and implementing business plans
- Understanding of cost and financial planning processes
- Experience managing within a unionized environment is an asset
- Experience working within ISO and EHS standards
- Experience with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
