Job Title: Swimming Assistant Head Coach
Supervisor: Swimming Head Coach
Location: Marymount University, Arlington, VA
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Division: NCAA Division III / Atlantic East Conference
Position Overview:
As the Swimming Assistant Head Coach, you will play a leadership role in advancing the goals of the program by supporting the Head Coach in all areas, including coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, and administrative management. You are expected to embody Marymount University’s mission and the values of Division III athletics—academic excellence, integrity, leadership, and community engagement.
Primary Responsibilities:
Coaching & Player Development
Collaborate with the Head Coach on the planning and execution of practices, training sessions, and meet strategies.
Deliver technical, tactical, and physical training to student-athletes.
Provide in-meet coaching support.
Recruiting
Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes who meet academic and athletic standards at Marymount.
Maintain consistent communication with recruits, families, and club/high school coaches.
Plan and conduct campus visits, tours, and recruiting events.
Track recruiting activities and manage profiles using platforms such as Front Rush.
Student-Athlete Support
Foster a positive team culture focused on mutual respect, personal accountability, and inclusive excellence.
Provide mentorship and support to student-athletes, emphasizing academic achievement and character development.
Assist with monitoring academic progress and collaborate with academic support staff as needed.
Encourage student involvement in leadership programs, campus events, and community service.
Program Administration
Assist with the day-to-day operations of the program:
Travel planning and logistics
Equipment inventory and uniform management
Ensure full compliance with NCAA, Atlantic East Conference, and Marymount University rules and policies.
OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS
Support departmental events, fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement, and social media efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel during the competitive season and recruitment periods.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree
3+ years of coaching experience at the collegiate or elite club level
Understanding of NCAA Division III rules and philosophy
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel with the team
Preferred:
Master’s degree
Experience with NCAA Division III recruiting and compliance systems
Familiarity with Front Rush, Hudl, and Google Workspace
CPR/First Aid certification
Experience
At least 3 years of coaching experience, ideally intercollegiate coaching experience. Collegiate competition experience desired. Thorough knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student athletes.
Licenses or Certifications
CPR, First Aid and AED certification.
Financial Responsibility
Processes or records financial transactions within established guidelines and safeguards. Reviews and/or approves financial transactions for the men’s & women’s swim program. Submit purchase requests and budgetary questions to the business manager to help in the decision process to live within a set budget for the program.
Supervision
Training/coaching other employees. Scheduling and providing daily work direction to the assistant coaching staff members.
Special Knowledge
Basic computer skills, including ability to utilize Microsoft applications and recruiting/compliance software (Front rush).
