Opportunity Awaits, Apply Today! Oregon State Hospital is seeking 3 Native Service Providers-SR24 to join our Creative Arts & Therapy Program.

The Oregon State Hospital in Salem, Oregon is seeking experienced Native Service Providers.  This position exists within the Vocational, Educational, Spiritual Care, Peer Recovery, and Native Services Department, which provides a comprehensive range of services to the forensic inpatient and residential populations within the hospital.

What you will do!

The purpose of the Native Services Provider is to provide spiritual and native services with special events and cultural practices to be offered and provided for patients. The Native Services Department includes a Native Services coordinator and Native Services Providers who deliver spiritual ceremonies, counseling and visitation, hospital programmatic services in Salem and Junction City, education, facilitation and monitoring of spiritual visitors/volunteers, and provision of sacred items.

Provision of Services

  • Meet with patients to identify spiritual and cultural needs to determine the appropriate path of intervention in consultation with the patient’s treatment team.
  • Work with patients to grow spiritually in their cultural and spiritual practice through Indigenous arts and crafts, smudge ceremonies, sweat lodge sessions, individual and group counseling to include "Talking Circles", and accompany patients on outings with OSH staff.
  • Gain and apply knowledge of institutional, spiritual, cultural, and native practices with special focus on how these practices help people to develop spiritually and foster healthy attitudes, values, beliefs, cognitions, associates, and family/community relationships both in the hospital and upon release in the community.
  • Help patients to maintain positive contacts and involvement with their families and help patients access their family members in a safe, secure, and positive manner.
  • Schedule appointment-based counseling services to referred patients for native services.
  • Consult with treatment teams regarding patient beliefs and customs.
  • Document progress and group notes of all services.

Build Community and Communication

  • Enhances teamwork within native services across OSH and in interdisciplinary endeavors and teams.
  • Uses forms of communication and interaction with staff across all OSH that enhance positive relationships and a sense of teamwork/community.

Spiritual and Native Services Administration

  • Develops and implements an effective and efficient program of spiritual services, music, educational material, equipment, and sacred spaces for all native services groups and practices that will meet the spiritual needs of patients.
  • Creates, maintains, and improves the use of a management information system of records, scheduling, and services that aids in developing an effective and efficient cultural and spiritual program.
  • Continually works to improve the efficiency and quality of our systems for working with our colleagues across divisions in the department, and for delivering the native spiritual program.
  • Assists with review and provides input for local, state, and federal rules effected by, or effecting, the policies, and procedures of native spiritual program.
