Responsible for driving the growth of our company by originating residential mortgage and home equity applications according to established policies, procedures and applicable legal and regulatory guidelines. Responsible for developing and executing business plans tailored to meet and exceed sales goals and objectives. Originates loans through online channels or referrals from the Retail Bank branch network. Works with existing and prospective customers to explain a variety of mortgage products and services available; makes recommendations based on customer needs. Coordinates the flow of documentation from application to closing while also working with all parties involved in the transaction. Refers other NBT Bank products and services as appropriate.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in business or related discipline and two (2) years’ experience in sales or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two (2) years mortgage or lending experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to navigate web-based online application loan origination system.
- Very strong computer efficiency - proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of primary mortgage loan products, credit reporting and associated closing costs.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to cross train and develop others.
- Very strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Very strong written and oral communication skills.
Unique Job Characteristics and Requirements:
- Business Travel Required as needed between Norwich and off-site lending areas, as well as to various bank branches and regional business partner meetings, Conferences, Professional Organizations and role related Training NMLS Certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
Tasks Performed:
- 50% Effectively manages daily flow of online applications, required documentation, and timely response to customers. Daily telephone and e-mail communication to customers in process. Explains variety of mortgage products and associated closing costs and offer recommendations based on evaluation of individual customer financial needs. Works in conjunction with the Mortgage Manager, Head of Operations, Operations Manager, Sales Managers and operations support staff to achieve the department’s loan sales goals, income goals, audit/compliance goals and annual objectives.
- 25% Works with Operations and Closing staff to ensure preparation and processing of forms and documents portfolio's. Research and recommend alternative source options and cost-effective methods for improved delivery of online, telephone, mail applications. Cross trains employees as needed for assistance with online originations.
- 20% Maintains knowledge and guideline documentation binders for approved online process, loan programs and Investor relationships. Coordinates product training with Retail Bank branches. Monitors loan pipeline, makes suggestions for improvements/enhancements to daily process and business line strategy.
- 5% Other duties as assigned.
