About the role

This is a full-time, 9-month term position reporting to the Dean of Health Sciences. This position will be involved in the Department of Nursing and the Department of Healthcare Technology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To devote an equivalent of 37.5 hours of work per week
  • Participate in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the curriculum.
  • Participate in development of policies and standards.
  • Assist in classroom and lab (clinical and campus) instruction.
  • Monitor, grade, and evaluate students' progress.
  • Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all classes.
  • Utilize technology in classroom and lab instruction.
  • Participate in professional and committee activities including serving on department committees as assigned by Dean and serving on college committees.
  • Work cooperatively with hospitals to provide optimum clinical experience.
  • Flexibility to teach evening, weekend, and at DSCC locations as needed (requires use of personal vehicle).
  • Teach a range of ages of students including nontraditional, returning adults.
  • Recruit students from the community to make DSCC's programs viable and competitive.
  • Practice a learning-centered educational philosophy and redesign courses to include research­ based learning strategies including service-learning opportunities, learning communities, critical thinking skills, co-operative learning, and reading across the curriculum.
  • Develop web-enhanced courses for delivery in technology-enhanced classrooms/labs (such as Zoom rooms), online or in a hybrid mode.
  • Work with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of courses, analyze the results, develop and implement improvement plans, and document the improvements each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain membership in an appropriate regional, state and/or national organization related to your teaching at DSCC.
  • Assist in the identification and mentoring of adjunct instructors.
  • Revise and develop curriculum in cooperation with colleagues: assist in preparation of schedules and in selection of textbooks (including e-textbooks when appropriate).
  • Advise students, maintain regular office hours which are accessible to students and participate in college life and committee work of the College.
  • Willingness to acquire software certifications as needed.
  • Assist in grant writing.
  • Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email, voice mail, text and other electronic means.
  • Be trained and certified as a Master Advisor.
  • Serve as the Skills USA co-advisor if role is open.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary: Desk work; travel will be required for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office settings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Medical Surgical Nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  • Four years clinical nursing experience.
  • Recent Medical Surgical experience.
  • Current State of Tennessee Registered Nurse License and in good standing.
  • Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.
  • Commitment to teaching and providing quality education for students.
  • Qualities of integrity, initiative, and good judgment with high ethical standards.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals and/or groups.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience in a community college setting.
  • Certification in Phlebotomy, Electrocardiogram, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Patient Care Technician.  

Salary range: $45,227-$61,866
