Health Sciences | AdministrationThe Office of Legal Affairs, under the direction of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, provides legal representation and advice to the University and all of its constituent parts, including the Board of Trustees, the President, the Wexner Medical Center, the Office of Academic Affairs, Student Life, Athletics, Human Resources, Business and Finance, among many others. As one of the largest universities in the nation, Ohio State is a multifaceted and sophisticated institution, with a high-level and leading-edge legal practice that touches nearly every area of law, including litigation, labor and employment law, constitutional law, civil rights law, construction and public contracting, intellectual property, business transactions, real estate, tax and benefits, public safety and criminal law matters, immigration law, sports law, administrative law, health care law, and privacy matters.
Under the day to day direction of the Senior Associate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel provides legal advice and services to the Office of Business and Finance, including the Office of the Treasurer, Office of Investments, and Office of the University Bursar, and department heads and administrators in areas of sophisticated business practice, including governance, banking and financial services, debt, capital formation, mergers & acquisitions, and securities law, including across domestic and international investments in public equity, venture capital, private equity financings, hedge fund, real estate & infrastructure and high grade bond funds, as well as legal review of and recommendations regarding existing and proposed general business operations, including the university energy concession, and assistance with general business issues. The Associate General Counsel drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts and other legal instruments including sophisticated limited partnership agreements for the foregoing funds and drafts accompanying side letters; conducts and supervises legal research; manages outside counsel; and initiates and implements special projects and other duties as assigned.
Must have approval of the Ohio Attorney General's Office prior to appointment to serve as an Assistant Attorney General of Ohio.
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.), graduate from an accredited law school and be a member of the Ohio bar or eligible to practice law in the State of Ohio within one year or less. Must have approval of the Ohio Attorney General's Office prior to hire. A minimum of six (6) years of experience in a law firm or corporation with a focus on sophisticated business and commercial transactions.
