Position Summary

The Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO) is a senior IT executive who supports the Chief Information Officer (CIO) by overseeing daily technology operations, managing IT staff, and leading strategic initiatives. The Deputy CIO ensures reliable, secure, and efficient IT services, manages vendor relationships and budgets, and frequently serves as the acting CIO in the CIO’s absence.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Directing IT infrastructure, applications, support services, and system maintenance.
  • Strategic Support: Assisting the CIO with strategic planning, policy development, and long-term goal setting.
  • Management & Supervision: Hiring, mentoring, and evaluating IT personnel.
  • Project Management: Leading cross-functional projects and ensuring timely delivery of IT services.
  • Budget & Compliance: Monitoring expenditures, managing contracts, and ensuring compliance with security standards.
  • In the absence of the CIO, serves as officer in charge of the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Evaluates the service delivery initiatives and efforts of OIT.
  • Reviews service delivery feedbacks from students, faculty, and staff and recommends appropriate action to the OIT leadership to improve service delivery.
  • Periodically reviews and categorizes service feedback to determine continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates the different operational activities and schedules of all areas in OIT - applications and web development, information systems, projects, systems and network administration, technology services, and technology support and come up with the annual OIT operational calendar.
  • Coordinates and ensures documentation of all OIT processes and procedures in electronic format.
  • Develops procedures and recommends protocols to ensure the security of all SFCC information resources.
  • Responsible for coordinating the content of the OIT website.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies and shall serve as the main point of contact for coordinating systems and infrastructure emergency procedures and practices.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of applications/web development using a multi-tier architecture.
  • Knowledge of information systems (preferably Banner).
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years in IT Management experience leading a wide range of information systems and technology functions including, but not limited to, service desk operations, technology support, systems and network administration, information systems, applications development, information security, with at least five (5) years of supervisory experience.

    •    Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Schedule Designation:

  • This position is located on campus in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  
  • Typically, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
