Job Summary:
This is an opportunity for a talented professional to join a team doing innovative work in undergraduate education. As a member of the DukeLIFE staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating and managing recruitment programs for 1G/LI students. Core functions of this role include recruitment efforts on and off campus (including travel to represent the university and conducting information sessions/giving presentations); program and project management; and building relationships with school counselors, students and families, community-based organizations, and others across Duke. The senior program coordinator will work closely with campus and external partners to help potential 1G/LI students identify Duke as an accessible and viable option for their education. Working to better both pre-application and pre-matriculation recruitment, the successful candidate will partner closely with undergraduate admissions and financial aid to educate potential applicants about the DukeLIFE Office and the myriad of supports Duke has in place to help under-resourced students succeed.
The position reports to the DukeLIFE director.
Work Performed:
Pre-Admissions Program Management (30%)
· Focused outreach to high school guidance counselors around the U.S., but with particular attention to schools in the Southeast. Establish relationships and programs with different schools to inform high school juniors and seniors of Duke’s affordability and accessibility.
· Work with Matriculate, a virtual college advising program that connects high-achieving low-income students with a near-peer college mentor who works one-on-one with students throughout the college and financial aid processes.
Post-Admission Program Management (25%)
· Work closely with admissions and financial aid offices on annual recruitment events. These responsibilities include event planning and execution, outreach, and coordinating the selection process for programs with a focus on students Pell-eligible students.
· Recruitment work will also include direct outreach, virtual and in-person informational sessions for admitted students and their families, hosting on-campus recruitment events that complement events hosted by admissions, and implementing an ongoing outreach campaign carried out by current DukeLIFE students.
Records, Assessment, and Reporting (20%)
· Employ best practices and evidence-based approaches in the design of processes and programs that recruit 1G/LI students to top universities
· Engage undergraduate students and understand their needs for support
· Collaborate with the direct or, AVP, and admissions officers on the design and implementation of assessment strategies to examine the impact of efforts
· Write year-end reports on initiatives and contribute to the stewardship reports based on assessment data
Student Development & Supervision (20%)
· Work with current DukeLIFE students to plan and implement Blue Devil Days events
· Provide mentorship and advice to LIFE students
· Recruit and train student workers who participate in the Matriculate program. Supervise them in the development of the newsletter and social media posts.
· Help advise the DukeLIFE and QuestBridge student organizations. Support the planning of 1G/LI Awareness Week and participate in student-led programs.
Stakeholder Relations and Partnerships (5%)
· Maintain relationships with campus departments, programs, organizations, groups as well as professional associations and other institutions to achieve goals and objectives
· Act as liaison to other Duke offices, including various academic departments, Student Affairs, Admissions, Financial Aid, and other OUE units
