Summary

Hennepin County's Human Services and Public Health department (HSPH) is seeking a Mental Health Crisis Therapist to join the Cope team. This position provides one the opportunity to make a difference in diverse communities, enhance clinical skills in a fast-paced, team environment, and be part of a department with the mission to strengthen communities by improving the health of individuals and families.
  
Cope is a 24/7 mobile crisis program that provides crisis services in Hennepin County. Community members call Cope when they or loved ones are having a difficult time managing a crisis and/or are seeking community supports. As a team member, you will make decisions about an individual's safety in real time while assessing their strengths. Instead of managing a caseload, you will be providing clients with reassurance in times of crisis, determining their needs and resources, and safety planning. It takes passion and a willingness to work with people in crisis.  


Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the North Minneapolis Human Services Center at 1001 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN, 55411, and remote as job duties require. The Mental Health Mobile Crisis program operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Work hours for this position are Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, 12:30 p.m. - 11 p.m. Work hours will also require you to work 3 holidays per year. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.  

A shift differential of $1.50 per hour will be paid for nights and weekends.

This is a full-time, benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Human Services Public Health (HSPH) to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible.
This position is internally classified as a Social Worker, Senior.

In this position, you will:
  • Conduct initial mental health screening of adults, children, and adolescents in crisis via phone to determine client needs.
  • Provide mobile crisis assessment for adults, adolescents, children, and/or families in a client’s home, community setting, or through telehealth. 
  • Complete mental status examinations, determine appropriate provisional diagnoses, and develop short-term treatment goals and intervention plans based on the individual's identified needs.
  • Manage Adult Protection calls received from Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC) and reports received through the Social Services Information System (SSIS). 
  • Complete documentation in electronic medical record according to statute.
  • Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate and consult with other mental health professionals, case managers, and family members with the appropriate authorization.

Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles of social welfare.
    • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker. 
    • Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver permit, and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to travel to a variety of Hennepin County sites and community locations, and to occasionally transport
