About the Role
In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Manager, External Affairs who will play a key role in the Delaware region’s development efforts to raise over $1 million through philanthropic, university, and employer partnerships, and to support with internal and external communications, brand-building, thought-leadership, and state and local policy.
The Manager, External Affairs will contribute to development goals for the region, support the cultivation and stewardship of strong partnerships with employer and community partners that are inspired by Braven’s story and its Fellows, and advance Braven’s brand in Delaware.
This role is on the Delaware Regional Team, which sits on the Innovation Team, and reports directly to the Managing Director, Delaware Region.
What You’ll Do
Stakeholder Management (50%)
- Develop and leverage strong communication and thoughtful cultivation strategies to influence and motivate a portfolio of new and existing individual supporters, local employer partners, and philanthropic partners (create briefs and presentations, write effective emails, etc.)
- Manage a portfolio of shared-value relationships with local employer partners, delivering a meaningful return on investment to partners, and continued growth of Braven’s outcomes, growth, sustainability, and brand
- Support the MD in strategic local board prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship
- Build local policy agendas in conjunction with the MD as well as Braven’s national Managing Director, Policy
- Attend external meetings with the MD Delaware
Fundraising Support (20%)
- Create and manage efficient and smart systems, infrastructure, and tools (tracking our partnership pipeline, creating prospect research, etc.)
- Set strategy alongside the MD, Delaware to ensure her time is aligned with priorities and to extend her capacity by jumping in to execute more straight-forward tasks
- Collaborate with the External Affairs team on various initiatives and provide information needed for grants and ensure all reporting requirements are met
- Manage the cultivation and ongoing stewardship of a portfolio of donors and employer partners
Brand Building Planning & Execution (20%)
- Conduct research on and secure opportunities for the Delaware region to build brand visibility and awareness
- Plan and execute external events such as site visits, lunch and learns, treks, jobs/impact report events etc.
- Steward external affairs operations by:
- conducting research and outreach
- crafting communications, presentations, and proposals
- tracking progress towards the ongoing engagement strategy of donors, employer partners, university partners, and potential board members
- entering and tracking external affairs data and information in Salesforce
Board Management (10%)
- Support the MD, Delaware on the recruitment, coordination and management of a regional Board
- Participate in individual annual and quarterly planning
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years of aligned professional experience with a track record of event management and stewardship cultivation
Preferred Qualifications
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, adapting the message for a range of external audiences
- Excellent relationship-building skills and significant experience tailoring the approach based on an understanding of the beliefs, motivations, and contexts of others
- Knowledge of the philanthropic, employer market, and policy landsca
