Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience in a medical office, hospital, nursing home, or home health setting.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Must obtain Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification or registration prior to starting date and maintain it as a condition of employment.

  • Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months of employment.

  • Eligible for certification or registration with:

    • American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or

    • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or

    • National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

A well-qualified candidate will also possess

  • Previous experience in a college healthcare environment.

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course of study.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to apply basic medical techniques.

  • Basic EMR documentation skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  • Provides patient care activities daily.

  • Transfers patients from reception area to exam rooms, measures vital signs, obtains height and weight, interviews patients for medical history, and updates health information in the EHR.

  • Administers medications and injections as directed by a clinician.

  • Performs basic procedures including EKGs, vision/hearing screening, ear lavage, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, swabs, and fitting orthopedic supplies.

  • Prepares patients for exams and explains procedures.

  • Assists and/or chaperones providers during exams.

  • Documents care activities in the EHR.

Medical Office

  • Greets patients and provides assistance and direction.

  • Answers telephone and responds to routine inquiries or transfers calls.

  • Obtains electronic signatures for consent to treat.

  • Assists with inventory and office equipment maintenance.

  • Stocks patient care areas as needed.

Safety and Compliance

  • Cleans, disinfects, and
