Job Summary:

 

As part of the Finance team, the Accounting Technician will be responsible for processing invoices, managing accounts payable and receivable transactions, reconciling discrepancies, maintaining various spreadsheets, and assisting with financial reporting.

Overview:

 

Located in the historic iron range mining region of northeastern Minnesota, NewRange is a 50:50 joint venture of subsidiaries of Teck and Glencore that is advancing two major copper-nickel-platinum-palladium deposits, NorthMet and Mesaba. Project activities range from readying the feasibility stage NorthMet project for a production decision pending clearance of mine permits to advancing the nearby Mesaba project to pre-feasibility studies and permitting. NewRange is committed to unlocking a new domestic supply chain of critical metals for the transition to a low-carbon economy and positioning Minnesota as a world leader in sustainable mineral resource development.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values on Health, Safety, Environment, and Communities shared by Teck and Glencore (the Partners).
  • Process vendor invoices accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare and process payments to vendors in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounts payable and receivable records.
  • Review employee expense reports for accuracy before submitting to HR for payment.
  • Submit requests for new vendors.
  • Update 1099 tax information as required.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve invoicing and payment issues.

 

  • Generate and issue customer invoices monthly.
  • Follow up on overdue accounts receivable by contacting customers via phone, email, or mail to request payment and resolve payment issues or disputes.
  • Apply cash receipts to the appropriate customer accounts.
  • Prepare bank deposits.
  • Assist with audits: collaborate with auditors to provide documentation and answer inquiries.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in the Energy or Natural Resources sector will be considered an asset.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience or experience in a role with transferrable skillsets. Previous SAP experience will be considered an asset.
  • Must have a high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and projects with minimal guidance, to handle rapidly changing priorities, and to be team and customer oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work well with other departments.
  • Attention to detail combined with proactive and task-oriented approach to work.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong organization and time management skills with the ability to work in a productive manner with many deadline-driven tasks and projects.
