Duties and Responsibilities:

This position serves as a developer within the Non-Election Application Development Section in the Bureau of Departmental Systems (BDIS) at the Florida Department of State (Department). Responsible for developing software systems based on Department, Division, and Bureau requirements. Develop, test and document software application systems; serve as a team member on development projects; adheres to BDIS standards when developing, testing, and documenting application code on new or existing systems using approved methodology; resolves system bugs identified during user acceptance testing (UAT); participate in the discovery process to determine business needs; and define application functional specifications.

 

Development work includes but is not limited to user interfaces; security application modules; error and logging modules; web services and sites; file and image management; database and data constructs; reporting; and external partner/vendor interfaces. All work is conducted at Florida Department of State offices, unless approved by direct supervisor.

 

Performs unit testing with team members to confirm code is performing as designed.

Participates in code review to confirm security compliance, variables have descriptive names, non-repetitive code, use of constants when a value is referenced more than once, disposing appropriately, and modules perform a single task. Responsible for documenting the use of the Department’s content management system. Evaluate new development tools and methodologies for use by the Application Development team.

Assists the BDIS Operations and Maintenance team with modifications to existing software application systems.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Proficient with C#, .NET 4.0 and higher, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code. Knowledge of development methodologies, ASP.NET, MVC, Nuget, and WPF. Ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to perform under pressure.
