Engineer 1 - Cloud Engineering (Hybrid - Seattle, WA)

Job Description

 As an Engineer 1 on the Cloud Engineering team, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of critical infrastructure and platforms used by Nordstrom’s engineering teams across AWS, GCP, Azure, and OCI clouds. This position also requires participation in an on-call rotation to provide timely support for critical systems.  

This role is ideal for early-career engineers who are enthusiastic about cloud technologies, security, automation, and operational excellence.

In this hybrid role, candidates must be available to work onsite at Nordstrom's headquarters in Seattle, WA, a minimum of 4 days/week. 

A day in the life...

• Implement and champion cloud technologies within our organization which adhere to engineering and security standards. 

• Build secure tooling to allow the self-service of AWS, GCP, Azure, and OCI offerings by application teams. 

• Work closely with both development and operations teams with a demonstrated commitment to their success. 

• Operational support to operate clouds at enterprise scale. 

• Project work. 

On-Call Rotation: 

• Participate in a shared on-call rotation to provide operational support for critical cloud services and platforms. 

We'd love it if you have...

Technical Skills: 

• Hands-on experience working with AWS, GCP, or Azure, with knowledge of security, networking, and IAM best practices. 

• Proficiency in Python with the ability to write clean, reusable, and testable code. 

• Experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools for automating deployments and infrastructure management. 

• Familiarity with monitoring, telemetry, and alerting tools such as New Relic. 

• A proactive approach to monitoring, maintaining, and improving system performance and availability. 

• Desire to learn Systems and Security Engineering. 

Soft Skills: 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

• Strong collaboration and organization skills and comfort working on team projects. 

Educational Background: 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent field required.
